In this role, the firm develops litigation strategies, supervises regional and local counsel, and provides a cost-effective and consistent defense that is in sync with client goals. It also plays a significant role in the administration and management of asbestos dockets aswell in negotiations with plaintiffs' lawyers and in coordinating discovery for its clients.

The firm's attorneys have a wealth of trial and appellate experience defending clients against claims made by injured claimants, including those claiming mesothelioma or other asbestos-related diseases. Asbestos defense attorneys are familiar with the complex scientific issues involved in these cases, as in addition to specific legal issues that arise while defending companies before state and federal courts throughout the United States.

Catherine has represented numerous manufacturers as the lead trial counsel in asbestos and personal injury lawsuits involving product liability and in cases that have been consolidated involving multiple claimants. She has substantial experience litigating asbestos-related cases in state and federal courts as well as before a variety of appellate and supreme court bodies.

While at Brobeck, Vogel worked on asbestos cases, including those of respondents to the asbestos lawsuit Claims Facility in Northern California. The cases files included SEAR forms (Short encapsulated Evaluative reports) that contained confidential information about claimants. These included medical reports and work histories, as well as an inventory of asbestos-related products that plaintiffs used or worked near. Vogel was required to use access to the files and was able to go through the SEAR forms of any case at her current employer.

In addition to its extensive trial and appellate experience, the Bowles Rice Asbestos Team is acknowledged nationally for its ability to negotiate settlements on behalf of its clients. In this capacity, the firm works closely with lawyers representing plaintiffs in the development and execution of settlement agreements. It also has extensive experience in defending businesses against appeals.
