The scripts are freely available for anyone to translate. To modify the files below, make a free account on the yuri project website (very top of this page), find a script to work on (i.e. s001), click on "Edit this page" on the right hand side, and then add your translation to the right of the Japanese characters. Make sure to fill in the "Edit summary" when you're modifying a page so we know what got changed and then credit yourself on the main page of Shirayuki no Kishi so we know who translated what.

Translation Tips:
    0. Avoid translating sentences in the order it appears WHEN NECESSARY. Rearrange the clauses.
          Ex. 額に汗しながら歩いているうちに、やっとミカ女の校舎が見えてきた。
Bad: Though there's sweat on my forehead while walking, at last St. Michael's school building can be seen.

Good1: I finally got to see the school buildings of St. Micheal's as I was walking with sweat on my forehead.
Good2: While walking with sweat on my forehead, I finally got to see the school buildings of St. Micheal's.

    1. Finding the subject of the sentence, then reading the Japanese sentence backwards translates well sometimes.
Ex. 私は六夏さんが教室には見あたらなかったので、探しておりました = Rikka-san, I went looking for you since you weren't in class.
    2. Avoid stock translations: “It can't be helped”, “As expected of…”, etc.
    3. Make sure it flows / makes sense. If it sounds weird, change it.
    4. Put yourself in character's shoes and imagine what words they'd use.
    5. Try to avoid repeated words from repeating itself repeatedly. http://www.thesaurus.com/
    6. Reading out loud what you've translated helps too.
    7. Imagine reading your translated sentence to someone... will they look at you funny?
    8. Not necessary to translate word per word. Just get close to the meaning as possible.
    9. Translate while having the visual novel running along side you to get a feel of the environment.
   10. Translate 5-10 sentences, refine it, translate another 5-10 sentences, refine it...etc.
   11. If you're not sure about how something is translated, you can ask for help in the project discussion or
        the yuri translation thread: http://boards.4chan.org/u/thread/1995089#p1995089

Style Guide:
    0. Tournaments in track are called 'meets.'
    1. The full name of the school is “St. Michael's School For Girls”. The short name is “St. Michael's”.
    2. Use second person narration as little as possible. (i.e. you)
    3. Use American English (i.e. Jeez, not geez; Mom, not mum; Favorite, not favourite; Honor, not honour; Recognize, not recognise; Apologize, not apologise)
    4. Stuttering is recorded with repetitions of the first sound and follows capitalization of the stuttered word. (i.e. い、いえ = N-No; み、み、美夜 = M-M-Miya)
    5. Six dots maximum in groups of three, except in long transitions.
    6. Use past tense to describe actions and present tense to state facts, thoughts, or feelings. [Except in vocalizations]
    7. One Space after ellipses … unless they are followed by punctuation or if they're at the start of a sentence. (i.e. ……って、何……? = ...Wait, what...?)
    8. When a word is after an ellipses, capitalize the first letter unless it's part of the sentence before the ellipses. (i.e. この事したら……好き? = Do you like it when... she does that to you?)
    9. Use two spaces after a complete sentence.
    10. Avoid abbreviations (i.e. omg, wtf)
    11. Use all honorifics and any familiar otaku words (i.e. -san, -sama, -gozen, senpai, sensei, Onee-san, bentou, baka, aho, hentai, ecchi, arigatou, yuri)
    12. 「」 for dialogues.
    13. ― for interruption or truncation.
    14. ~ or extra letters for extension.
    15. For kissing sound effects and such, use Japanese version tagged with * *. (i.e. ちゅう = *chuu*, ぺろぺろ = *peropero*)
    16. For laughs/giggles, use Japanese version (i.e. hehe = fufu, hehehe = fufufu).
    17. For vocalizations, ignore all of the above.

Translation Tools:
    1. Rikaichan: firefox extention (and possibily other browsers) which allows you to hover over Japanese words and look it up instantly.
    https://addons.mozilla.org/es/firefox/addon/rikaichan/?src=search

    2. Rikaichan Japanese-English Dictionary File: firefox extention dictionary file needed for rikaichan to work.
    https://addons.mozilla.org/es/firefox/addon/rikaichan-jpen/?src=search

    3. Furigana Inserter: firefox extention (and possibily other browsers) which allows you to inject furigana onto kanji.
    https://addons.mozilla.org/es/firefox/addon/furigana-inserter/?src=ss

    4. HTML Ruby: firefox extention that adds support for rendering of ruby annotation (furigana inserter).
    https://addons.mozilla.org/es/firefox/addon/html-ruby/?src=search

    5. Visual Novel Reader: a software that allows you to add soft subs to visual novels.
You can translate and look up words on the spot, all of which gets saved on the VNR website for others to enjoy.
Make sure to add your translations from VNR to here (yuri project site).

Download translation scripts and development patches: http://www.mediafire.com/download/1zb66fbbhgo7j80/SHIRAYUKI_SRC.zip

patch.xp3 includes patched system scripts; this file is expected to remain constant. patch2.xp3 contains the novel scripts. To work on the scripts, extract Kikiriki and the above archive to your working directory, make changes in the .src files, and run Recompile.bat or run this command:
kikiriki.exe -c -i scripts -o patch2.xp3

Notes:
  * The heart symbol is inserted with \001. The engine handles it gracefully, so a No Hearts variant will not be necessary.
  * Additional work still needs to be done, especially word-wrapping. I will presume that a member of TLWiki will be able to address this.
  * Please ensure that your text editor can read and write UTF-16 LE files and that the scripts are saved as such, or the program will cause errors.
  * Take care not to modify any of the script commands or to include the tags in your local copies of the scripts.
  * Do not use # to insert comments as these are used by the engine for script commands. Use ; or // instead.
